You already know the importance of professional portrait photography but are still hesitant about the task. Professional portrait photography can be a bit intimidating. To make the experience more pleasant and lead to better results, here are a few tips:
A week before the shooting
Ensure that you schedule your week in a way that allows you to arrive at the shoot day feeling relaxed. Avoid planning meetings or any other activities that may disturb your photoshoot day.
The day prior to the photoshoot
It is highly recommended to sleep 8 hours the day before the photo shoot in order to be as fresh as possible for photos.
Know yourselves
Go through your photos from the past. Is there a certain color that flatters you more? A certain hairstyle? Was the photo taken from a certain angle that particularly flatters you? Make sure you share your preferences with me.
on the day of the shoot
When attending a photo shoot, dress as if you are preparing for a job interview for your dream position. Opt for a solid color shirt, avoiding stripes, patterns, or drawings. You may also consider wearing a jacket or tie to elevate your look. While it may be tempting to dress casually for a photo shoot, it is advisable to maintain a formal and professional appearance.
Avoid wearing large jewelry or shirts with prominent logos.
For men, it is best to avoid wearing a t-shirt under a button-down shirt. If you choose to do so, ensure that the undershirt is white to blend in seamlessly. It is also recommended to be cleanly shaven or have a well-groomed beard for the shoot, avoiding any in-between looks.
If wearing a jacket, ensure that it contrasts with your shirt, such as pairing a white shirt with a blue jacket.
Make sure your attire is free of wrinkles, and iron if necessary. Avoid overly revealing clothing to maintain a professional image for your photos.
hair and makeup
If you can visit the hairdresser before the photo shoot, that's great. If you can hire a makeup artist within your budget, that's even better. It's all about enhancing your best self.
Shortly before the photoshoot
Ensure your hair is well-styled and there are no stray hairs that are overly noticeable.
Check that your face is not oily. If you are not wearing makeup, feel free to cleanse your face and gently pat it dry with a paper towel. If you have makeup on, apply a light powder to reduce shine. Avoid using any makeup that has a shimmer, as it may cause unwanted reflections when using flash photography.
If you wear glasses, make sure they are clean and free of any smudges.
calm down :-)
You will look fantastic!
Stress can show in photos, so be sure to be in a positive mood. Listen to some music you enjoy, maybe even dance a bit, and let's start shooting :-)
You aim to radiate confidence in your photos. Research indicates that assuming a "power pose" for a minute or two can be effective. Before the photos, try standing in an open stance with your hands on your hips for a few minutes, and taking a deep breath. This will help you relax and be ready for the shoot. Let's make a great portrait!
